Raila's Daughter Winnie Odinga Attends Anti-IEBC Protests

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga's family has been conspicuously absent from the glare of the political scene during his presidential campaigns.

On Monday, however, the former Prime Minister's youngest daughter - Winnie Odinga - took the centre stage during the NASA anti-IEBC protests.

Winnie accompanied NASA supporters in the demonstrations along Nairobi's Kenyatta Avenue and later addressed them at a separate rally.

"Nimeona leo mmejitokeza kwa wingi, asante sana (I have seen that today you have come out in large numbers, thank you very much)," Ms Odinga began.

Here is a video of Ms ODinga's address.

The protesters present at the time request Winnie to urge her father, the Opposition presidential candidate, to grace the protests.

Ms Odinga ignored the request and in an effort to keep her address short concluded with a call to the protesters to keep charging towards the IEBC offices.

"Tuendele hivo Wednesday na Friday na Monday next week hadi IEBC waende nyumbani (Let's turn out on Wednesday, Friday and Monday next week until IEBC officials go home)," she rallied.

Winnie has been spotted a few times during NASA events but she has never been given an opportunity to address the crowds her father commands.

In a recent interview, Ms Odinga conveyed that the worst part of having the Opposition leader as her father is the attention that comes with it.

"I hate it. It holds me back. I can't get to have a private life and taking pictures the whole time is not quite what I consider having a good time," she revealed.

She has, however, reiterated that she supports Odinga and his efforts in Kenyan politics adding that she even accompanies him as his driver.

"I work for my dad. I'm his bodyguard, his briefcase carrier, travel companion and even his driver if need be.

"I sit in meetings where I'm the only female and everyone is above 40 years of age. You can see through their looks that they disapprove of my look and my accent but you can't impress everyone," she told Pulse magazine.
