AU Issues Stern Warning to Jubilee and NASA

The African Union (AU) has rebuked and blamed the Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance for the stalemate they have created in the country.

AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat, asked all the stakeholders in the electoral process to exercise leadership during this “crucial period of Kenya’s Democracy.”

In a statement issued, Mr. Mahamat assured that the Commission was closely following the situation in Kenya.

He also stated that he was aware of the withdrawal of National Super Alliance (NASA) principal Raila Odinga from the October 26 repeat poll.

Mr Mahamat affirmed that the Union was ready to take any appropriate initiative to facilitate a peaceful conclusion to the electoral process.

He added that the AU had sent an observer mission in Kenya since September to support the electoral process.

The Commission Chairman assured Kenyans that they will continue supporting the electoral process to ensure a peaceful and successful conclusion.

The Union had earlier on stated it was concerned about actions and utterances that might affect the holding of the fresh presidential election as scheduled.

The AU has called on Kenya to exercise a democratic governance, preserve peace, security and uphold human rights and the rule of law.

Mr Mahamat also urged Kenyans to support constitutionalism.
