NASA Governor Caught in 'Fake Certificates' Scandal

A National Super Alliance (NASA) Governor risks losing his seat after it emerged that he could have forged his academic certificates.

Tana River Governor Dhado Godhana, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, has been taken to court on the grounds that his academic papers were forged.

The petition filed by a voter alleges that the election of the former Member of Parliament (MP) was based on illegalities and should be declared void.

During the Court submissions, lady Justice Asneth Ongeri denied Godhana's quest to dismiss the case challenging his academic credentials.

Instead, she gave a seven day period for the Commission of University Education to confirm the authenticity of the academic qualifications of the Governor.

This decision was made despite Godhana's application seeking to strike out the education body as an interested party in the case.

Justice Ongeri noted that she would issue the final ruling on the case only when the credibility of the NASA governor's certificate is confirmed.

His governorship has also been challenged by former Tana River county boss Hussein Dado who wants the court to declare his election null and void.

The Jubilee politician claims that the election conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was marred with irregularities and illegalities.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho have also been put on the spot over fake academic certificates.
