Raila Announces NASA's Next Action After Matiangi's Ban

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has revealed that the Opposition coalition will be moving to court to challenge the ban on demos issued by acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i.

Mr Odinga on Friday told a delegation in London that the government-instituted ban was unlawful.

"The government is acting unconstitutionally in banning demos so we will ensure that we take them to court.

"Instead of the government allowing people to protest peacefully, they are sending police with tear gas," Mr Odinga explained.

On Thursday, Matiang'i declared that the anti-IEBC protests would not be held within the CBDs of Mombasa, Kisumu and Nairobi.

He explained that the action had been necessitated by violent protests that have resulted in damage to property and interference with businesses within the cities.

When asked about the eruption of violence during the NASA protests, the former Prime Minister accused the government of a well-orchestrated set-up.

Odinga stated: "It's not violence. It's state-sponsored thuggery."

"Instead of govt sending police to protect demonstrators they are attacking them, this must be condemned," he added.

The Opposition chief had strong statements against the Jubilee administration, asserting that his team would not take part in an election where President Uhuru Kenyatta is both a "player and the referee".

"We refuse to be the flower girls in the wedding of Jubilee," he chided.
