Siaya Senator James Orengo Speaks on Holding Parallel Elections on October 26

Siaya Senator James Orengo has stated that the National Super Alliance (NASA) will hold a parallel election on October 26 if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) does not put its house in order.

Orengo was speaking during a NASA rally in Mombasa on Sunday as the opposition welcomed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga back to the country.

"If President Uhuru Kenyatta and IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati go ahead with the elections, we will conduct our own election," remarked Orengo.

His sentiments were echoed by several NASA leaders including Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

NASA is pushing for reforms in the electoral body and claimed the election slated for October is not 'a level playing field.'

Elsewhere, a section of politicians allied to President Kenyatta now want the Head of State and Odinga to embrace dialogue before things get out of hand.

Speaking during a media address at Norfolk hotel, the politicians led by former Kiambu governor William Kabogo stated that the current state of affairs in the country could plunge the nation into chaos.

'It is time Uhuru and Raila sit down and resolve the current political impasse; only dialogue can save us and not chest thumping," the former governor stated.

NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua on her part noted that one of the leaders should be courageous enough to call the rival adding that it is the only way the country will be peaceful after the election.

President Kenyatta's former advisor Kilemi Mwiria, bashed the two leaders for creating tension in the country knowing that they would enjoy state security if war flares up.

"Let demonstrations stop, electoral amendment law stop and IEBC should have public interest at heart. If postponing the election will save this country, then let it be," he stated.
