NASA Launches New Campaign 8 Days to Election

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders on Monday announced that they will conduct a series of rallies around the country to sensitize Kenyans on why they should not participate in the repeat election.

The Opposition leaders announced that startingTuesday, they will visit Meru County to urge their supporters not to show up at the polling stations on the October 26 if IEBC does not implement their reforms.

Siaya Senator James Orengo stated that Tuesday's rally marks the beginning of a number of events to sensitise voters across the country on the reforms they want the electoral agency to implement.

Speaking at the Opposition's Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi on Monday, Senator Orengo indicated that NASA would not call off their demonstrations against the electoral commission even though members of the coalition were being victimized.

“If President Kenyatta thinks he can intimidate us to abandon the protests, then he should wake up to the reality that these demos are not stopping anytime soon unless our demands are met,” stated Orengo.

Meanwhile, the Opposition on Monday evening called off its daily demonstrations against IEBC to cater for their injured supporters.

"This is a temporary step to enable the coalition to attend to the supporters who were brutalized and hurt and families that lost loved ones on Monday after police and State-protected goons descended on protesters and NASA leaders.

"The nationwide protests will resume on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The Coalition directs all its supporters to stay off the streets on Tuesday," the statement read in part.

Some Opposition Members of Parliament had claimed that they were being trailed by unknown assailants.

Homabay County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga alleged that people dressed in police regalia chased her car as she was trying to access the city center to join other NASA leaders for the protests.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Homabay County Woman Rep claimed that the assailants, who she believed were police officers, targeted her and her Kisii counterpart Janet Ongera.

“The police targeted me today. I was with honorable Ongera. They chased us, shooting at us and threw teargas canisters towards my car,” stated Mrs Wanga.

“During the demonstrations in town, we noticed an X-trail with men on the sunroof chasing us. They chased us from Kijabe street to State House road, firing at us,” she added.
