Raila to Hold Parallel Event During Mashujaa Day

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will hold a parallel event on Friday October 20, as the country marks Mashujaa Day.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, the Opposition leader stated that NASA will take time to honour people who have been killed during the recent anti-IEBC demonstrations.

"In honour of the innocent victims of the State, our protests will stay suspended. On Friday, we will mark the memory of these victims as heroes of the struggle for electoral justice at a venue to be disclosed later.

"On that day, we shall communicate our next course of action," read the statement in part.

The former Prime Minister also expressed his disappointment at the brutality employed by police in parts of Western Kenya, the latest victim being a high school student killed on Monday in Kisumu.

"The National Super Alliance remains deeply disturbed by the continued murder and brutalization of supporters especially in Western Kenya;

"The murders that have occurred during recent protests, together with those committed immediately after August elections were clearly premeditated and carefully planned to annihilate the people and make them accept a stolen election," he added.

He also aimed a jibe at Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and acting Interior Cabinet Secretary DrFred Matiang'i stating the two were facilitating criminal gangs that were terrorising Kisumu residents.

"The latest killings exposed the ugly face of the Alliance between the legitimate security organs and militia armed and dressed by the State to subdue people seeking free, fair and credible elections.

"Boinnet and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i are facilitating gangs on drugs and security officers fed with divisive propaganda and ethnic bigotry to execute a murderous expedition against unarmed and innocent civilians.

"It is getting increasingly clearer that President Uhuru Kenyatta is hell-bent on continuing the historical political alienation, deprivation, brutalization and psychological traumatization of sections of the Kenyan society opposed to fraudulent and dictatorial leadership," remarked Odinga.

He further added that NASA was exploring means to hold the police boss and CS Matiang'i personally responsible for the murders.
