Top Police Bosses Ordered to Resign

Nyanza Regional Co-ordinator Wilson Njega and Police Commander Leonard Katana have been ordered to resign by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi over the killings of demonstrators during anti-IEBC protests in the region.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary for Political Affairs accused the duo of ethnic profiling and being too 'trigger-happy'.

The lawmaker stated: "What is more worrying is the emerging pattern of ethnic profiling targeting members of the Luo community in the ongoing illegal police crackdown in the region. In fact, the current situation bears the hallmarks of genocide in the making. We must put a stop to this.

"In these circumstances, we demand the immediate resignation of Njega, Katana and all the county commissioners," Wandayi added.

Mr Wandayi further claimed that the retention of provincial administrations by the Jubilee government was a contravention of the constitution and was driven by sinister motives.

He demanded that the officials avoid duplication of roles and instead focus on serving the people.

The death toll for protesters killed has been steadily rising as the National Super Alliance's demonstrations against the electoral body enter the fourth week.

The most recent was a 17-year-old student who was shot dead on Monday.

On Friday last week, three protesters were shot dead in Bondo while three more sustained gunshot wounds.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet claimed that those killed in Bondo were advancing towards a police station and were met with appropriate force.
