Jubilee MPs Reveal Their 1st Action After Presidential Election

Jubilee Members of Parliament have revealed that their first order of business after the October 26 presidential election will be kicking out Chief Justice David Maraga.

The lawmakers made the declaration while announcing immediate plans to reform the Judiciary after the presidential rerun.

The legislators expressed their anger and agitation accusing the Judiciary of being influenced by the National Super Alliance (NASA) hence ruling in their favour.

Speaking at a rally in Kangema constituency while campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election, they implicated the courts for being behind the "anarchy being experienced" in the country.

Led by Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome, the MPs further expressed their displeasure with the High Court’s decision to suspend the ban on NASA protests in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu CBDs, accusing the courts of allowing “violent and unruly protests”.

“These judges seem to be part of the NASA arrangement and some have to go after the polls, starting with Chief Justice David Maraga,” she chided.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro also questioned if the Judiciary was part of NASA’s plot to sabotage the economy with Kenyan stocks having fallen by 5.6 percent since the annulment of the presidential election.

“Have they not seen the protesters break into private businesses and loot private property during the protests? Why then would they allow these demonstrations to go on,’’ he lamented.

Mr Nyoro affirmed that Jubilee leaders will table a motion in Parliament to drastically reduce the powers of the judiciary. He accused the judges of “overstepping their mandate by overriding the directives of the executive”.

He stated that the three arms of government; the Executive, Legislature, and the Judiciary should operate without interfering in each other’s roles, arguing that the primary role of the courts is to prosecute criminals and not to hamper the government’s attempts to maintain peace.

On September 1, the Maraga-led court ruled in NASA’s favour which led to the nullification of the presidential election. The historic ruling was a first in Africa with the court finding that the electoral process was tainted by irregularities.
