Contrasting Details Emerge on Accident That Killed Nyeri Governor

A divergent account by an eyewitness has disputed police reports on what caused the accident that took the life of Nyeri Governor Dr Wahome Gakuru.

The eyewitness, Dennis Muigai, told Citizen TV that he was driving behind the governor’s vehicle at the time of the horrifying accident.

Mr Ngengi stated that the recklessness of a bodaboda rider caused Dr. Gakuru’s driver to veer off the road and ram the car into a guardrail that went through the vehicle.

According to Muigai, the motorbike rider, who is alleged to have been ferrying meat, joined the road blindly forcing the driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid hitting him.

“I was coming from Nyeri on my way to Nairobi, I was behind the Governor’s vehicle and the driver was confused by a motorbike rider who was carrying meat.

"He abruptly joined the road and in front of him was a lorry. The governor’s driver swerved to avoid hitting the motorbike rider, unfortunately, he hit the guardrail,” Mr Muigai reminisced.

Mr Muigai further stated that the governor was aware of what was happening and told him he had been injured in his leg as people used a hacksaw to try and save the occupants.

“I talked to the governor, he told me that his leg had been hurt and the driver showed me where he was hurt,” he further explained.

Another eyewitness ascertained that two of the occupants had been badly injured. She stated that the governor had been injured in his leg while another person had been severed off his three fingers.

A few minutes after the incident, the police stated the accident was caused by a tyre burst that caused the vehicle to veer off the road.

Barely 24 hours before he met his sudden death, Governor Wahome had hosted his son, who is a KCSE candidate, and his fellow classmates at his Nairobi home to encourage them as they sit for their final exams.
