The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has issued a notice to all motorists of an impending closure of Nairobi's Ngong Road.
Beginning Sunday, part of the highway stretching from City Mortuary to the Kenya National Library Service will be inaccessible.
"The public is hereby notified that due to the ongoing construction of Ngong Road Phase I, traffic along the Left-Hand Side of Ngong Road from City Mortuary roundabout all the way to the Kenya National Library Service will be affected.
"The contractor intends to close one section of the carriageway as from Sunday 12th November till Sunday 19th November 2017. This is to allow for surface works along that section," the notice read in part.
KURA went on to advise motorists to use alternative routes through the week to avoid further inconveniences.
The governmental body intends to expand Ngong Road into a dual carriageway before January 2018.
"We expect to complete it in December, including road markings and signalisation.
"It will also include the installation of streetlights, intelligent traffic signals and walkways for pedestrians," stated the acting Planning Manager, David Muchiri, in June.
The initiative has been funded and contracted by the Japanese government and Phase II of the project spans from Prestige Plaza to Dagoretti Corner.
Phase I of the project will cost a sum of Sh1.4 Billion.
