Dr Matiang’i Deregisters Private School Over KCSE Cheating

A High School in Nakuru received a letter of deregistration on Monday after it was found culpable of examination malpractices.

The School was issued with the letter from Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang after being found guilty of engaging in exam transgressions on the 9th and 10th of November.

In the letter, Dr. Kipsang stated that registration of the school had been revoked with effect from December 1st.

“It has been decided that the registration of your school as provided for in the Basic Education Act, 2013, be revoked with effect from 1st December 2017,” the letter read in part.

Furthermore, the school’s management was ordered to submit the current certification of the learning institution to the County Education Board Secretary.

“By copy of this letter you are instructed to hand over the current certificate of your school to the County Education Board Secretary with immediate effect,” read the letter.

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i had stated that the government will deregister private schools that were found guilty of attempting to engage in cheating during examinations.

Dr. Matiang’i issued a strong warning affirming that any individual or institution that attempted to interfere with the credibility of the national exams which are ongoing will not be tolerated.

Matiangi ascertained that strict management of exams had prevented leakage. However, attempts to open examinations scripts before the recommended time had been nipped in the bud and action taken against the offenders.

Moreover, the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) had been applauded for giving moral and logistical support to the government to enhance the credibility of exams.
