Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Wants MCAs to Hire Vice Chancellors

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu wants MCAs to be hiring Vice Chancellors of institutions in Kiambu County to ensure locals are given priority.

Waititu stated that majority of employees in Kenyatta University (KU) and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) were non-locals.

The Governor criticised the current arrangement stating that it had denied the indigenous people of Kiambu the jobs they deserve.

Waititu added that he wants his proposal to also apply to other higher learning institutions in the devolved unit.

“KU and JKUAT, for example, are not employing our people. If you go there the staff are not our people. We want to make sure that the head of such an institution is recruited through our assembly. We want to ensure that the person who is selected is from Kiambu,” Waititu stated.

He further highlighted that his administration would come up with a legislation compelling all national and extra schools in the region to set aside one class for students from Kiambu.

Waititu stated that despite performing well, local students are discriminated against and given slots in other regions.

He argued that the infrastructure in the schools was developed using resources from the county government thus Kiambu students should be given priority.

“We are also going to make sure that all our schools whether National or Provincial have one class for local students,” the Governor stated.
