According to police officers on the ground, the four were robbing pedestrians at around 5pm.

"They were fatally shot. Two pistols were recovered from the suspects," stated Mayek.

He added that the guns included a Ceska pistol which was stolen from an AP sergeant who was killed on February 15, 2014.

Mayek revealed that one of the slain suspects was a wanted criminal who was behind robberies in Eastlands and Eastleigh areas.

"He was wanted following the incident where a businessman was robbed Sh2 million," he added.

The bodies were taken to city mortuary.

Elsewhere, police are investigating a robbery at a Kenya Commercial Bank branch in Thika where Sh50 million was stolen Sunday night.

Police say the burglars accessed the bank through an underground tunnel which was discovered Monday morning.

According to a bank manager who reported the incident to police, the robbery was detected when they opened and found the strong room broken into.
