Why CJ Maraga Travelled to Rwanda on Wednesday

Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga on Wednesday travelled to Rwanda to attend the East African Magistrates and Judges Association (EAMJA) annual gathering.

The CJ was accompanied by Supreme Court Judge Isaac Lenaola and Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi.

According to EAMJA President Justice Luka Kimaru, the meeting is aimed at ensuring the exchange of ideas that would help member countries borrow best practices from each other.

“Participants will get the opportunity to build linkages and continue to learn from each other long after the conference,” Kimaru was quoted by the Nation.

He explained that the association strives to bolster judicial independence, eradicate corruption and adopt best practices in court administration.

Other issues expected to be discussed during the conference include; ways of improving the delivery of justice in the region.

The conference theme is; “Enhancing the use of ICT for an Effective, Transparent and Accountable Administration of Courts in East Africa”.

Other delegates that would grace the event include; chief justices of Uganda and Rwanda and the president of the East African Court of Justice along with other top judiciary officials from the region.

EAMJA brings together all member states from East Africa and countries from the Commonwealth region.
