54 Killed by Police Since Friday - Women MPs

Women MPs allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) have claimed that at least 54 people have been killed by police since Friday last week.

Speaking during a rally in Kibra, the leaders accused the government of not taking any action despite the killings of innocent civilians.

Led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, Homa Bay County Woman Rep Gladys Wanga and her Busia counterpart, Florence Mutua, the leaders also accused police of stoning private vehicles.

“This level of police brutality is unacceptable. If we can’t stay together then let everyone have their own country.

"We will not accept, we will not move on, it will not happen,” stated Ms Wanga.

NASA is set to hold a fundraiser on Friday to help the families of supporters killed in the election period to transport their bodies.

The money will also be used to settle hospital bills for those who suffered injuries.

Wanga added that the Opposition coalition will also hold a joint prayer service in the morning before the funds drive in the afternoon.

According to the legislator, the venues of the events will be announced on Thursday.

Elsewhere, plans are underway to swear-in President Uhuru Kenyatta on November 28 at the Kasarani Stadium.

Preparations are almost complete as the dress rehearsal by the military was conducted on Wednesday.

Security has also been beefed up ahead of the event which is set to be attended by a host of leaders from around the world.
