4 Workers in Sonko's Government Arrested After New Scandal

Four City Hall cashiers and the manager of a matatu Sacco were on Thursday arrested for an attempt to defraud Nairobi County of Sh 2.5 Million.

The workers allegedly used fake documents to issue seasonal parking tickets for 20 vehicles belonging to the Sacco.

The group of five will be arraigned in court on Friday morning.

After he came into office, Governor Mike Sonko set up a special team to investigate numerous cases of fraud that had bedeviled the county government.

This case marks the second arrest made by the team within the last three months.

A sting operation led by the Governor in August discovered unbanked Sh7 Million at City Hall.

At the time, Sonko stated: "It is completely unacceptable that collection in excess of Sh7 Million in cash was lying with the cashiers by 11 a.m. yet the county's bank is only 50 metres away.

"Under my watch, City Hall has ceased to be anyone's cash cow. We shall streamline revenue collection and management," he added.

City hall employees have for long exploited the issuance of parking tickets to make money.

Governor Sonko, once he came into office, promised to rid his administration of corrupt officials.
