MPs to Use Buses to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Ceremony

Members of the National Assembly will be required to attend President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration slated for Tuesday next week using buses.

National Assembly clerk Michael Sialai issued a memo on Friday directing the lawmakers to park their cars at Parliament after which buses will ferry them to Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

The buses will begin operating from 7 a.m. while the ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. and end in the afternoon.

When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale confirmed the directive by affirming that he would comply with the memo's directions.

The memo further stated: "The same transport will be used to State House for the luncheon and thereafter to Parliament buildings where members will pick their individual transport.

"Kindly note that individual vehicles will not have access to the venue. Sergeants at Arms and Parliament's protocol officers will be on hand to guide the members."

Additionally, the legislators have been instructed to collect their invitation cards and accreditation badges from the Office of the President.

"Kindly note that guests who do not have these documents will not be allowed into the venue," read the memo issued on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Cabinet, Joseph Kinyua, on Friday confirmed that the organizers of President Kenyatta's swearing-in ceremony had invited all presidential candidates in last month's election including Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Addressing the media at Kasarani stadium, Mr Kinyua explained that all Kenyans had been invited adding that it was not necessary to have another parallel event elsewhere.

"We have invited all the Kenyan people including all those who were looking to be considered President by the Kenyan people, not just NASA.

"For the people who want to move together, we really would plead that for that particular day it is not necessary to have other events. Any other function will be like Kinyua having his tea somewhere," he stated.
