Opposition Leader Raila Odinga Invited to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Inauguration On Tuesday

The Secretary to the Cabinet Joseph Kinyua on Friday confirmed that the organisers of President Uhuru Kenyatta's swearing-in ceremony had invited all presidential candidates in last month's election including Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Addressing the media at Kasarani stadium, Mr Kinyua explained that all Kenyans had been invited adding that it was not necessary to have another parallel event elsewhere.

"We have invited all the Kenyan people including all those who were looking to be considered President by the Kenyan people, not just NASA.

"For the people who want to move together, we really would plead that for that particular day it is not necessary to have other events. Any other function will be like Kinyua having his tea somewhere," he stated.

Regarding the cost of the entire ceremony, Mr Kinyua stated that the inauguration was expected to cost approximately Sh300 Million.

He took a swipe at the British Government for issuing a new advisory explaining that the country was safe and there was nothing to worry about.

"There's no threat whatsoever to warrant a travel advisory. The move was ill-advised," he stated.

The British government, has, however, denied issuing a travel ban adding that it had only asked its citizens to be more vigilant and avoid traveling to regions where violence is likely to occur.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a senior official in the British High Commission confirmed the information as updated by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Thursday evening.

She further refuted reports on social media that the British government had issued a travel ban on Kenya.

"We have not imposed a travel ban, we have just asked the citizens to exercise constraint while in Kenya, you know there has been political tension in Kenya since the August 8 presidential election," she stated.
