NASA MP Opposes Plan to Swear In Raila

National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Onyonka on Wednesday opposed the plan to swear in Raila Odinga as President.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, the Kitutu Chache MP expressed his dissatisfaction with the plan scheduled for 12 December.

According to him, the new plan had been overtaken by events as President Uhuru Kenyatta has already assumed office.

He noted that the former Prime Minister would not have any instruments of power guaranteed in the Constitution.

"For me it's not something to discuss, it has been overtaken by events. Raila does not have the instruments of power, he does not have the military," he noted.

Unlike the Head of State, the MP challenged Mr Odinga for lacking the military to run the country.

Mr Onyonka further divulged that this will hinder Mr Odinga from executing any powers as stipulated in the Constitution.

Nonetheless, the NASA MP clarified that he does not support the idea of the veteran politican to quit politics.

He suggested that the Opposition leader and Mr Kenyatta should engage in meaningful talks that would improve the situation in the country.

"This country is bigger than all of us; I think the political elites in the country should engage in talks that would better the country," he conveyed.

His statement was also backed by Isiolo South lawmaker Tepo Abdi and his Samburu counterpart Maison Leshomo who stated that his inauguration cannot translate to taking over power.

"The country needs to move forward. People need to engage in economic activities that will benefit the country, Odinga’s swearing-in plan is nothing but a dream,” Isiolo South MP stated.
