UK Praises President Uhuru Kenyatta After Inauguration

The United Kingdom (UK) praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for his efforts to unite Kenya moments after his re-election.

Through its Minister for Africa, Rory Stewart, UK vowed to aid Kenyatta in ending divisions brought about by the elections 

Mr Stewart added that the nation should engage in constructive talk and reconcile after the busy poll period.

“I am pleased that I was able to visit Kenya today and attend Uhuru's inauguration.

"Today marks the moment where Kenya can move forward after a prolonged, divisive, election period in a new spirit of reconciliation.

"I hope that all Kenyans will recognise the need now for national dialogue and healing,” he stated.

It was his first official visit to Kenya since his appointment as joint Minister of State for the Department for International Development and Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in June.

“The UK has extensive and historic links with Kenya, through our business links, our development programmes, and our Diasporas.

"This has been an opportunity to reaffirm our partnership and hear more about the ways that our two countries can work together,” he added.

The Minister also held bilateral talks with President Kenyatta where he reaffirmed UK's commitment to Kenya on matters growth and development.
