US Congratulates President Uhuru Kenyatta, Reveals 3 Things It Expects From Him

The United States on Tuesday congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for being elected to office for their second term.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the US further urged the President and his deputy to hold an “immediate, sustained, and open national conversation to heal divisions between communities.”

The statement sent by the State Department spokesperson, Heather Nauert, stated that US was deeply concerned by the ongoing political tensions in the country.

Additionally, Ms Nauert urged Kenyans to join together as part of the process of addressing the tension and further strengthen institutions in the country.

“We encourage all Kenyans to come together at this critical moment and to work together peacefully and uphold the constitution,” the message read in apart.

The statement also directed security forces to refrain from the use of unnecessary force against citizens who are exercising their democratic rights through demonstrations.

In conclusion, the State Department assured President Kenyatta that it will continue to work together in an effort to build democracy.

“As friends, we will continue to work with all Kenyans committed to building democracy, advancing prosperity, and strengthening security,” the statement concluded.

President Kenyatta was sworn in on Tuesday at a lavish ceremony that was attended by the heads of several African nations.
