Changes to Expect in President Uhuru Kenyatta's New Cabinet

President Uhuru Kenyatta will be soon expected to announce his new Cabinet after he was inaugurated on Tuesday 28th November 2017 for his second term.

Reports indicate that the President and his deputy William Ruto have started working on the formation of a new Cabinet with major changes expected in the appointments.

According to the Nation, failure by some CSs and Principal Secretaries to effectively showcase the Jubilee development track record during the campaigns could cost them their positions.

The President is also expected to reward politicians who defected from the Opposition and joined his camp.

Some of the Cabinet Secretaries that are reportedly safe from being axed include; Charles Keter (Energy and Petroleum), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution), Najib Balala (Tourism), Dr Fred Matiang’i (Education), Ms Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs), Mr James Macharia (Infrastructure and Transport), Mr Joe Mucheru (ICT), Prof Judi Wakhungu (Environment) and Ms Sicily Kariuki (Public Service and Youth Affairs).

Kenyans.co.ke has learned that Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, former Meru Governor Peter Munya, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and two former Legislators Ababu Namwamba and Dr Paul Otuoma are allegedly being considered for appointments.

However, State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu explained that he will not be drawn into discussing when the President will announce the Cabinet.

“When the President is ready, I am sure he will announce; for now, I can’t speculate,” he stated.

Forming the Cabinet will be one of President Kenyatta's uphill task as he will be required to ensure regional balance and uphold integrity.

Reports in the Standard indicate that politicians have started lobbying for consideration in Cabinet appointments.
