The late Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru's family is set to receive Sh66 Million as compensation following the sudden death of the county boss.
In the compensation package proposed by the Nyeri County Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Sh10 Million has been set aside to offset funeral expenses incurred by the family.
An additional Sh20 Million has been labeled insurance premiums with no clear beneficiaries indicated.

The family will also receive Sh 36 Million as compensation for the demise of their father in the November 7, 2017, road accident.
The report will be tabled in the assembly and debated by the entire House after which it will be forwarded to the new Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
If the Assembly adopts the report, Governor Kahiga will then give the go-ahead for the funds to be released to the family.
The late Governor died after being involved in a tragic accident along Thika Road on his way to Nairobi.
He was buried on November 18th, 2017 at his Nyeri County home.

During the funeral, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that he will honor the late Governor by naming the annual marathon held in Nyeri County after him.
President Kenyatta further stated that he would work to ensure that the Ruring’u stadium in Nyeri is completed by early next year so that the marathon takes place.
“I assure you we will work together to ensure the stadium is completed on time so that the marathon which will be named after the late governor takes place.,” the President stated.
