How Uhuru Plans to Honour Wahome Gakuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that he will honour the late Nyeri Governor Dr Wahome Gakuru by naming the annual marathon held in Nyeri County after him.

The Head of State further stated that he would work together with the new Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to ensure Gakuru’s vision for the people of Nyeri is achieved.

“I assure you we will work together to ensure the stadium is completed on time so that the marathon which will be named after the late governor takes place.,” the President stated.

President Kenyatta, his predecessor Mwai Kibaki, governors and other leaders joined hundreds of mourners at Kagumo Secondary School where the service was conducted.

Mr Gakuru was involved in a freak road accident on Tuesday morning after his car rammed into a barrier along Thika road at Makenji, Muranga County.

He was rushed to Thika Level 5 hospital awaiting a transfer to a Nairobi Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Mr Kahiga later revealed that the deceased had once mentioned that his official car, which caused his death, was the one that would eventually kill him.

Earlier this year, another Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, passed on while receiving treatment at a London Hospital.
