Jubilee Governor Denied Government Vehicles For Official Duties

Isiolo Governor Muhammed Kuti was forced to use his vehicle for official duties after it emerged his government has harbored a lot of debt from the previous administration.

Isiolo County Secretary Ahmed Galgalo confirmed on Friday that debt inherited from former Governor Godana Doyo’s administration has left Governor Kuti without an official vehicle.

Speaking during a two-day induction forum of county officials by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Galgalo noted that the debt amounted to approximately Kshs 1 Million.

He divulged that Mr Kuti alongside his deputy, Dr Ibrahim Issa and all county Executive Committee members are using private vehicles for official duties as part of measures to ease the accumulated debt.

"We have inherited huge debts amounting close to Ksh1 billion dating back from 2014. The new officers do not have any official vehicles and are using their private cars,” Galgalo stated.

He also pointed out that the debt has hindered the county from performing most of the important functions.

Isiolo County is among several other counties that have inherited the debt from previous county governments.

Two months ago, Governor Mike Sonko told Nairobi County Assembly that he inherited a huge debt amounting to Sh58 billion.

In a similar incident, West Pokot Governor, John Lonyangapuo, accused his predecessor Simon Kachapin of misusing funds on what he termed as 'invisible projects'.
