2 Reasons Why NASA Cancelled Crucial Parliamentary Group Meeting

A Joint Parliamentary Group meeting for the National Super Alliance (NASA) has been canceled.

Leaders in the coalition explained that the meeting was canceled to give members who were out of the country an opportunity to return.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairman John Mbadi stated that the meeting was postponed after a request from the coalition's Principals.

“It was in the interest of the principals that the meeting be rescheduled to a date to be announced later,” Mbadi told the Nation.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi explained that the meeting was rescheduled because of the ongoing East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary games in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which involved a section of the coalition's members.

The Parliamentary group meeting had been scheduled to plan NASA's strategy in regards to House Committee nominations.

Reports indicate that the coalition was also expected to discuss the way forward in regards to the boycott of vetting appointees for the posts of Cabinet Secretaries.

On Monday, Mr Mbadi failed to submit names for nominees to the Committee on Appointments stating that the coalition did not recognise President Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency.

The Minority Leader in the National Assembly is reported to have explained that the Presidency was yet to be filled and as such, there was no reason for them to submit their nominees.

He explained that NASA would therefore not participate in the vetting of Presidential appointments.
