Uhuru Sends Heartfelt Letter to Tanzanian President John Magufuli

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday sent a heartfelt letter to Tanzania Head of State John Pombe Magufuli condemning the killing of Tanzanian peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The President noted that the attack on the soldiers who were part of a United Nations peacekeeping force serving the good cause of establishing sustainable peace in the DRC, was vile.

He condoled with the families who lost relatives in the attack and wished a quick recovery to those who were injured.

The Head of State affirmed that Kenya will continue partnering with Tanzania to boost the stability of the DRC as well as the wider Great Lakes region.

He explained that the Government and people of Kenya will stand with their Tanzanian neighbors in seeking a peaceful and prosperous future for the region.

The President sent the letter after 15 Tanzanian soldiers were killed and others injured when they were ambushed by an armed militia group in North Kivu region of the DRC.

The attack occurred on Thursday last week with report from the UN security council indicate that five Congolese soldiers and a further 53 personnel were also injured

President Magufuli on Saturday mourned the deceased soldiers stating that he was shocked by an attack on a UN base in the restive Democratic Republic of Congo.

"I am very shocked and saddened to hear of the deaths of our young, brave soldiers and heroes who lost their lives carrying out their peace mission in our neighbor the DRC," Magufuli was quoted by the Nation.
