19 Killed After Accident Along Kitale - Webuye Highway

19 people died on Monday night in a grisly road accident at Kamukuywa Bridge blackspot on the Kitale - Webuye Highway.

Bungoma North OCPD Eliud Okello confirmed the accident stating that some of the deceased were travelling to Webuye from Kitale in a 14-seater matatu, which rammed into the rear of a West Kenya Sugar Company tractor transporting sugarcane.

The tractor overturned at the bridge causing a multiple-vehicle accident involving a lorry, matatu and personal vehicles.

The matatu belonging to Sabatia SACCO was ferrying people from Kitale to Webuye.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of the lorry had slowed down as there was a stationey truck ahead when the matatu rammed into it.

Several people who were injured are receiving treament at Kimilili and Webuye subcounty hospitals.

On Saturday, 14 people lost their lives and several others were injured after an Administration Police (AP) lorry rolled over at Moinonin along the Marigat-Loruk road in Baringo North Sub-County.

Confirming the incident, Baringo AP Commandant Robinson Ndiwa explained that the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle causing the fatal accident.

The Commandant added that a majority of those who had perished were civilians while two officers also lost their lives in the incident.

The officer could not verify how many civilians were aboard the ill-fated truck at the time of the accident but he confirmed that five officers had been commissioned from their official station at Kapedo.
