ODM Official Resigns

An official in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has resigned due to constant frustration and lack of appreciation from the party.

Amos Ledaa Olempaka, who was the Secretary in-charge of Humanitarian and Disaster Affairs in ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) stepped down saying he felt his community's support for the party was not appreciated.

“I have reached this conclusion due to the fact that I felt my personal and community’s steady and unwavering support to the party has not been appreciated since 2007.

"The promises made to me and the community have never been fulfilled,” stated Olempaka, in a letter addressed to the ODM CEO.

Olempaka faulted the recent nominations to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) saying the process was discriminatory.

“The recent EALA nomination is a good indication of being unfairly and rudely ignored. This step I am taking is in solidarity with my supporters and community members who have advised me to protest on their behalf,” he added.

Earlier this month, a Ford-Kenya party official challenged the list of 12 nominees to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) submitted by the coalition.

Ford-Kenya party’s Assistant Secretary-General Yasser Ali Sheikh sued NASA and Speakers of both the National Assembly as well as the Senate while faulting the coalition for failing to include a representative from the Chama Cha Mashinani and their party.

Mr Sheikh, who was among the 54 Nasa applicants for the much coveted EALA slots, accused the coalition of having conducted the nomination process in a discreet manner and failing to consider coalition rules.

Jubilee party Members of Parliament on Thursday threw their weight behind Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka ahead of an afternoon vote on the East Africa Legislative Assembly representatives.
