Chaos Erupts During Hearing Petition Against Governor Ngilu

Chaos erupted on Thursday in a Nairobi court during the hearing of a petition filed by Former Governor Julius Malombe challenging the election of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

Supporters of the Governor and the former county boss clashed within the Milimani Law Courts premises.

The drama ensued at a time when Governor Ngilu's lawyers were cross-examining Mr Malombe.

Four people were arrested and were taken to Capitol Hill to record statements following the clash that interrupted the court proceedings.

James Makau, son of the former governor allegedly attacked Kitui Chief of Staff Crispus Ileli and was also taken to the Police station.

Justice Pauline Nyamweya adjourned the proceedings to Friday and directed that only 15 people from both parties attend the hearing.

In the petition, Malombe cited Ngilu as the first respondent with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) being the second respondent.

Kitui County Returning Officer Gogo Nguma was named as the third respondent.

Malombe expressed concern that the results that were displayed on the IEBC portal were not validated.
