Uhuru Advises Maraga to Toughen Up

President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised Chief Justice David Maraga to toughen up because Kenyans will always comment on rulings he makes.

Speaking at Supreme Court buildings while receiving the State of Judiciary Report, Mr Kenyatta urged the CJ to remain focused and discharge his duty diligently despite the pressure.

"Kenyans will say what they have to say and most of the time it will not be flattering, and that is democracy.

"So CJ, please grow a thick skin and consult with people within the law," stated Kenyatta.

The Head of State further urged the judiciary to serve fairly and avoid being compromised.

"I urge all judicial officers to serve all Kenyans fairly and diligently and to specifically uphold the Constitution and the law," added the President.

Maraga reiterated that he was not an enemy of Kenyatta, insisting that all the decisions of the judiciary are based on the law.

"Even though we may not always rule in favour of the government, this does not mean we are enemies.

"We have taken disciplinary action against 127 judicial officers and staff who are either on suspension or interdiction as we pursue zero tolerance to corruption," added the CJ.

In September, Maraga annulled the August 8 Presidential election, terming it null and void and got a lot of stick for his decision.

He was accused of subverting the will of the people and often received threats that he would be thrown out of office once the new regime came in.
