Raila Will Support DP Ruto for 2022 President - Duale

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has declared that National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga will endorse Deputy President William Ruto for the Presidency in 2022.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Garissa Town MP stated that the Opposition leader was indebted to DP Ruto following his appointment as the Prime Minister after the disputed 2007 election.

"Ruto stood with Raila after the 2007 elections and made him (Raila) the Prime Minister. Therefore, he is indebted to the DP and he should pay the political debt by supporting Ruto in 2022," he explained.

He elaborated that Nyanza residents would vote for Ruto in 2022 as a reward for backing Mr Odinga in 2007.

“The only community that made Raila a PM was the Kalenjin. That is why you should not be surprised to see Raila endorse Ruto for the Presidency in 2022,” he conveyed.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Duale was elected as the patron of the Pastoralists Parliamentary Group (PPG) meeting at the Nyali Sun Africa Beach Hotel in Mombasa.

The meeting brought together 107 MPs and Senators from arid and semi-arid regions.

He urged all the legislators to support Ruto's 2022 presidential bid: “We must ensure that a pastoralist gets to State House after President Uhuru Kenyatta and you (PPG members) know what I’m talking about.”

Mr Duale further announced on his social media pages that he had been elected to lead the group for the next five years following the PPG conference.

Appreciating the election, Duale stated: "Many thanks to Members of Parliament for showing confidence in my leadership and electing me as the Pastoralists’ Parliamentary Group (PPG) Patron for the next 5 years."
