Security operations have been launched to track the terrorists who are suspected to have hidden in Boni forest or neighboring Somalia.

"We have officers tracking them with the help of the military; we need to get the police vehicle back," the officer who sought anonymity stated.

The suspected terrorists also broke into several shops within the town and stole various items.

“They destroyed property but luckily there is no casualty, but we suspect some of them must have escaped with injuries after a shootout with police,” he noted.

A month ago, three police officers sustained severe injuries after al Shabaab attacked a convoy of buses they were escorting in Lamu.

The militants shot at five vehicles which were heading from Lamu to Mombasa from a thicket at Lango la Simba area on the Witu Garsen highway.
