Lurambi MP Titus Khamala Rejects Raila's Swearing-in

A National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of Parliament (MP) on Tuesday distanced himself from the planned swearing-in of Opposition leaders; Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Bishop Titus Khamala who represents Lurambi constituency in the National Assembly noted that plans to conduct another inauguration were just political sideshows.

Speaking at Shikoti grounds in Lurambi sub-county, the Legislator noted that the coalition should work on ensuring that the Opposition takes over the government in 2022 instead of swearing-in its leaders.

“We must focus on strengthening NASA ahead of 2022 elections, parties including Jubilee have challenges but we must overcome that and aim at clinching power,” Lurambi was quoted by the Standard.

He took a swipe at the Orange Democratic Movement  (ODM) for bullying its coalition partners in NASA.

According to the MP ODM had shortchanged the Amani National Congress (ANC) in the appointments to the different House committee leadership positions.

“They took everything, sidelining other affiliate parties, particularly ANC after Nambale MP John Bunyasi lost his bid for the public accounts committee to Opiyo Wandayi,” he stated.

The move by the MP to decline Mr Odinga's inauguration comes only a week after the former Prime Minister announced that he will be inaugurated early in the new year.

In a Christmas message to Kenyans, the NASA leader promised his supporters that he will be sworn in as the 'People's President' in January 2018 but did not give the specific date.

"We promise you that you can now look forward confidently to our swearing-in ceremony very early in the New Year," Odinga stated.
