The Job Threatening to Split NASA Leaders

A section of National Super Alliance (NASA) Members of Parliament on Monday sharply differed over the election of Ugunja Legislator Opiyo Wandayi as the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) chair.

Legislators from the Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Lugari MP Ayub Savula noted that the party had been shortchanged in the election of the PAC chair.

According to Savula, the coalition had agreed that the PAC chairmanship would go to Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi of ANC but that did not happen.

He announced that as the ANC parliamentary group chair, he would convene a meeting for the leaders to examine their role in the coalition.A

“We feel we have been short-changed by ODM... Every time an agreement is reached, they are the first ones to go against it,” Savula was quoted by the Standard.

Minority Chief whip and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, however, stated that the committee members elected Wandayi because they trusted him.

“This was an election and the person who got most of votes carried the day. This was done and finished,” Junet explained.

Busia Woman Rep Florence Mutua on her part noted that there was no preferred line up adding that everything was fair.

“Personally I did not receive any communication from the party directing us to vote in a particular way. This was an election within the committee and the members voted for the person they thought fit the bill,” she stated.

Mr Wandayi was on Monday elected as new PAC chair and would serve for the next three years with Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu serving as his deputy.
