Solution to End Salgaa Accidents Issued

A solution to end the accidents along the Nairobi-Eldoret Highway has been issued by the National Assembly Transport Committee.

According to the Committee Chairperson David Pkosing, diverting heavy trucks from the highway is the perfect way to reduce the high number of road crashes.

He advised that the Eldama Ravine road is used by heavy trucks heading to Eldoret whereas those heading to Kisumu should use the Molo diversion before other alternatives are put in place.

“That way we reduce the number of trucks using the dangerous spots on our highways,” Pkosing stated.

The Salgaa-Sachangwan stretch is a blackspot zone and has seen many people perish with the latest accident leaving 36 dead.

The legislator cautioned that under his leadership, the transport committee would not tolerate graft adding that he, together with all members, will work to streamline the sector.

The MP rejected calls by his colleagues to disband the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) arguing that it was not the solution to ending road carnage.

On Tuesday, a section of Members of Parliament from both the National Assembly and the Senate called for the disbandment of NTSA after it imposed a night travel for all public service vehicles.

Gideon Mulyungi of Mwingi Central stated that he will sponsor a Bill to disband the authority because of the many accidents that had occurred in the past few weeks.

“I wonder why Kenyans are still witnessing more road accidents despite the formation of NTSA.

“I will sponsor a Bill once we resume session to disband NTSA for failing to guarantee safety on our roads,” the Nation quoted the MP.
