4 Rift Valley Jubilee MPs Reject DP Ruto's Order

Four Jubilee Members of Parliament drawn from Deputy President William Ruto's region have rejected his directive asking them to resign from their parliamentary committee leadership positions.

The four; Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben), David Bowen (Marakwet), and Alex Kosgey (Emgwen) noted that they will not quit their positions in the Labor, Agriculture, Environment and Trade parliamentary committees respectively.

Last week, the legislators met the DP, who reportedly asked them to resign from the positions from the committees to create regional balance, but the MPs noted that they were elected by legislators and not appointed by the State.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Bowen confirmed that the meeting happened although he did not attend as he was addressing security matters in his Constituency.

He further noted that the agenda of the meeting was to have them step down adding that they will not follow the directive.

"There is nothing about resigning. We were elected by Members of Parliament from across the political divide so the only people who can remove us are the legislators themselves," Bowen explained.

The lawmakers landed in trouble after they won the chairmanship of committees contrary to the Jubilee Party arrangement.

Following their unexpected wins, the party tried to have them step down but they refused.

After several attempts, Jubilee Party Chief  Whip in the National Assembly de-whipped them from the committee, effectively removing them as chairmen.

The MPs, however, moved to court where they obtained orders from the High Court suspending the decision by Jubilee to remove them from the committees which they were elected to lead.
