Duale Announces New Election Plan in Parliament

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale on Friday announced a new plan to conduct a fresh election of four parliamentary committees next week.

This comes after Jubilee members in the Labour, Agriculture, Environment and Broadcasting committees protested the election of the leaders in the committees stating they were not in their right senses during the polls.

The Jubilee leaders also cited lack of confidence with their respective chairperson including MP Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben), James Gakuya (Embakasi North) and  Environment vice-chair Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East).

"The Clerk of the National Assembly has been served with a written notice and elections are slated for Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

" Keter and his colleagues can run up and down and throw tantrums but ultimately there will be an election next week. Members have already appended their signatures,” Duale stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had requested the four to step down but they rejected stating that they will not be intimidated by the Executive.

Mr Keter, on his part, claimed that the Garissa Township MP and his Mumias counterpart Benjamin Washiali were giving the President wrong information regarding the proceedings of House Committees.

"Duale and Washiali are misleading the President. They went straight away to confuse the DP. They said we agreed, but we hadn't agreed," he stated in an interview on NTV.

He further accused Duale and Washiali of colluding with cartels that are milking the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

In his defense, Washiali stated he was fighting for inclusivity in House Committees as Jubilee Party should incorporate regional balance.

"The issue that Hon. Keter is talking about is a master plan given by the party that we have to share slots meant for committee leaders," he stated.
