The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has deployed a specialized team to investigate the rape allegations at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Meeting with the forensic investigators on Sunday, Mr Kinoti lead the team in strategising on how to carry out the investigations.

Mr Kinoti, who was sworn in on Friday, stated that the team has seasoned investigators from differet formations under the DCI and others from the Gender and Children Department of the police.

"I will personally supervise the investigations. The allegations made against the hospital staff are serious and we have to get to the bottom of them," he affirmed.

He highlighted that the team would also analyze the hospital's security systems, with an aim of revealing the threats, risks and challenges that are there at the hospital.

According to Kinoti, any employee found to have been involved in any crime at Kenya's largest referral hospital will be arrested and prosecuted.

Kinoti asserted that his team had not yet received any specific complaints regarding rape from patients at KNH, claiming that he has also never received any when he worked as the spokesman for the National Police Service.

"We used to receive complaints of theft. We are not taking these allegations lightly though, and we ask anyone with information on the same to report to the police stations," noted Kinoti.

The police also stated that they are looking into the claims that the whistle-blower of the rape allegations against the hospital had tried to extort money from the management of KNH.
