Sonko Reveals Men Funding Thugs in CBD

Cases of mugging in the Nairobi CBD have been on the rise in recent days as several city residents have been robbed in broad daylight.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday revealed that intelligence reports indicate that politicians and businessmen were funding the criminals.

He also stated that he had formed an anti-mugging unit to curb the situation.

"After receiving several cases of insecurity within some section of Nairobi CBD my office today formed anti-mugging squad detectives who will work closely with Kenya police to curb the situation.

"We have also received intelligence report that some politicians and business people are funding youths to terrorize people.

"We are on the lookout and several arrests will be made forthwith," wrote Sonko on his Facebook page.

Last week it emerged that thugs have taken advantage of the congestion and are robbing unsuspecting pedestrians who pass in between buses.

Since most verandas are often full of people and hawkers, some city dwellers opt to pass between vehicles while crossing the road but this is a death trap, warns Patrick Owino who was a victim.

Mr Owino stated that he was attacked along Moi Avenue while walking in between buses in an attempt to cross the road.

According to him, the incident happened so quickly that no one noticed.

He lost his wallet and mobile phone worth Sh40,000 in the horrific ordeal.

Several complaints have also emerged on social media where ladies have even lost their wigs and earrings along Moi Avenue.
