Why KNH Rape Scandal Might be Fake

A police officer who is part of the investigations at Kenya National Hospital claims that the whistle-blower of the rape allegations against the hospital had tried to extort money from the management.

According to reports by Nairobi News, the officer also noted that the police will scrutinise the allegations that surround the whistle-blower.

Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, held a meeting with a specialised team of forensic investigators, the hospital's management and the hospital's security team to strategise on the investigations.

The DCI detectives retrieved CCTV footage from the hospital and interrogated the workers around the facility.

“I will personally supervise the investigations. The allegations made against the hospital staff are serious and we have to get to the bottom of them,” Mr Kinoti stated.

The team of detectives will also analyse the hospital’s security systems, with the aim of unveiling the threats, risks, and challenges that exist.

Moreover, separate investigations done by the Sunday Standard showed that a mother on the first floor maternity wing to get to her baby on the ground floor, would have to walk through a corridor joining the hospital burns unit, the theatre, the critical care centre, the renal unit as well as the cancer treatment centre, all of which operate on a 24 hour basis.

As investigations continue, the police have poked holes on the magnitude of women who are claiming to have been raped at the institution for such a long time without any alarm being raised.

Kilimani OCPD Joseph Muthee stated that it would be impossible for sexual assault to take place repeatedly in a controlled institution and in the same manner with no complaint ever reaching the police.

"The last time we had a sexual assault case at KNH is in 2013 and the matter was prosecuted in court. What you see now is just drama but the matter is being investigated by another agency so I can't say conclusively," Muthee stated.
