New Blow For MP Nixon Korir After Court Ruling

Lang’ata Member of Parliament Nixon Korir on Monday suffered a blow after the High Court ordered for a vote recount in a petition challenging his win.

The High Court ordered the exercise to be taken for votes cast in six polling stations that were used during the August 8 election in Lang’ata Constituency.

Justice Lucy Njuguna ordered for the recount ascertaining that the court had to establish the valid and spoilt votes.

Votes will be recounted at two polling stations in Kongoni, two stations in KPA, and one station in MOW and KOWI.

Justice Njuguna set the recount on January 29, 2018, at the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission warehouse in Industrial area.

She further directed the case be mentioned on January 24, 2018, before the deputy registrar of the High Court for parties involved to agree on modalities on how to conduct the recount.

The ODM Party candidate in the election, Oscar Omoke, who came second in the hotly-contested race, filed the petition claiming the election was marred by irregularities.

However, the electoral body (IEBC) declared Korir the winner after he garnered 41,086 votes against Omake who got 39,593.

The ODM candidate filed the petition asking the court to nullify the Langata constituency election on grounds that it was marred with irregularities that could have influenced Korir's win.

It was alleged that Jubilee imported voters from Rift Valley but failed to match the locals who are passionate ODM supporters.
