MCA Punches Woman Colleague During Heated Debate

A male MCA in the Nyeri County Assembly allegedly punched a female colleague after a disagreement regarding committee slots.

Mweiga MCA Njuguna Kawanjiku is accused of punching Nominated MCA Beth Nyawira, a move that angered other leaders present in the meeting.

Kawanjiku later fled from the assembly after the situation got out of hand.

His colleagues went to calm down Nyawira and according to Nairobi News, they denied intimidating female MCAs.

Reports indicate that trouble started when MCAs were called in for an informal meeting where Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki and Majority Leader James Kanyugo attempted to reconstitute committees.

Earlier this month, Murang'a MCAs engaged in a fist fight after it emerged that some of the ward representatives allegedly plotted to impeach majority leader Eric Kamande, Chief Whip Simon Wamwea and deputy Chief Whip Ruth Wambui.

The fight erupted during a meeting organized by Jubilee Party chairman Simon Gikuru whose agenda was reported to discuss the removal of the three officials.

According to the sources who sought anonymity, the MCAs linked to the three officials were intentionally locked out of the meeting.

On returning, the ward representatives demanded to know why they had been locked out, a situation that angered the MCAs who launched the fight.

"When we asked why they locked us out, they ganged up and beat us up," one MCA stated.

Gatanga MCA Nahashon Gachuhi sustained injuries on the head and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital.

A Jubilee official Charles Muthoni also sustained neck and head injuries after he was hit with a piece of metal.
