What You Should Have Done Before Resigning - Sonko to Igathe

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday finally spoke on the circumstances that saw his deputy Polycarp Igathe resign.

In an interview with Kameme FM, Sonko revealed that Igathe's resignation was a wrong and ill-advised decision.

The county boss noted that Igathe would have resolved for a better solution if he would have consulted Jubilee leaders or even religious leaders to mend their rocky relationship.

"He should not have left because we looked for this job together. If I had wronged him, he should have reported me to President Uhuru or Deputy President William Ruto, even the likes of Bishop Teresia would have helped us," Sonko expressed.

According to Sonko, his deputy was frustrated by the pressure that characterised their first days in office, claiming that City Hall had suffered many years of mismanagement.

The Governor further alleged that Igathe did not resign on his own will but did so on the advice of some of Sonko's opponents.

"My deputy was mislead by two or three people. I am sure he is regretting (resigning) ... we still talk. And we know the people who misled him. I won't be bullied, I only take orders from the President and his deputy," the Governor stated.

He also dismissed reports of holding dialogue with the outgoing Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, mentioning that he had not been approached for such talks.

Igathe resigned on January 12 on noting that he had failed to earn the trust of Governor Sonko.

Upon his resignation, Mr Igathe thanked the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Nairobi.

Sonko is yet to pick a replacement for Igathe's position.
