Jubilee Leaders Demand Apology From Githu Muigai

Leaders from Mandera have demanded an apology from Attorney General Githu Muigai after he alleged that the County passed NASA's People assembly motion.

The Ward Representatives, who support President Uhuru Kenyatta, noted that they wanted the AG to retract the allegation failure to which they will take legal action.

This came after the office of Muigai filed a petition seeking to stop 15 counties, among them Mandera, from enacting the motion.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, the MCAs led by county assembly speaker Mohammed Adan Khalif, stated that the utterance by the AG was malicious and had caused anxiety among members of the public.

"Our attention is particularly drawn to the allegations by the state law office that the Mandera county assembly had on December 9 passed a People's Assembly motion, through an affidavit by Charles Mutinda on behalf of the Attorney General,” Mohammed stated.

"The county assembly of Mandera, therefore, would like to refute the allegations made against us," he added.

The speaker further noted that the allegations could hurt the reputation of the Economic Freedom Party (EFP) which has the majority members in the County Assembly.

"The party has 28 members of county assembly in Mandera and five MPs and we support the government thus raises eyebrows why we would support an Opposition motion," he stated.

Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe had earlier warned that Counties which passed the People's Assembly Motion will pay surcharges.

Kiraithe noted that the counties contravened the law as public money meant for development was used wrongly.
