Ababu Namwamba Given New Position by Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday announced his full Cabinet and among the big winners was former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.

Namwamba was named as a Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working under Monica Juma who was appointed the Cabinet Secretary.

The President created the new role stating that the CASs will broadly be responsible to help Cabinet Secretaries to run affairs of the ministries.

Former Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh was also appointed CAS in the Ministry of Public Service Youth and Gender.

Shebesh lost in the election to ODM's Esther Passaris but was a prominent figure during President Kenyatta's campaign.

President Kenyatta has been under pressure from the public to release the full list of CSs and on Thursday, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi stated that he was yet to receive the names of the initial nominees.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings, Muturi stated that they had even passed a motion to cut short their recess once they received the names.

“They have not arrived. That is the simple answer.

“Remember we had passed a Motion before we went on recess, that when the news comes during the long recess, they would automatically go to the departmental committee and to the Committee on Appointments.

"So if they had arrived, already the process would be nearing almost completion,” stated Muturi.

Parliament’s Standing Orders state that once the Speaker receives the relevant communication from the Presidency, he should forward the Cabinet nominees to the Committee of Appointments and those of nominee ambassadors to the Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations for vetting.
