Police Fire Teargas to Disperse NASA Supporters

Police on Tuesday fired teargas at National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.

Opposition supporters who were heading to Uhuru Park for Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka's swearing-in closed part of the road, blocking vehicles heading towards Upper Hill.

Other NASA supporters who were along Uhuru Highway destroyed a sign at the roundabout joining Kenyatta Avenue.

The sign which reads "Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya" was vandalised by some people who were celebrating the swearing-in ceremony.

Excited Opposition supporters started walking to Uhuru Park for the ceremony from about 6 am.

"Today is the day", they chanted, concerning their leader, Raila, who insists the two 2017 elections were bungled in President Uhuru Kenyatta's favour.

Raila was expected to make a grand entry to the park at 12.30 pm, take the oath of office at 1 pm and then give directions on the coalition's next moves.

Suba South legislator John Mbadi had earlier explained that NASA was running behind schedule for the swearing-in ceremony.

The ODM Chair stated that they were earlier on concerned by police presence at the venue which kept some of their supporters away.

Mbadi, however, maintained that the ceremony would kick off after all the NASA leaders and principals arrived at the venue.
