How DP Ruto Spent Raila's Inauguration Day [PHOTOS]

  • On Tuesday, all eyes were glued to Uhuru Park where the Opposition leader Raila Odinga took the oath of office as the 'People's President'.

    As the country was focused on the ceremony, Deputy President William Ruto was busy performing his duties as the second in command.

    He chaired an Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meeting at the Harambee Annex office, Nairobi.

    The meeting was attended by Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and a number of Governors including Josphat Nanok (Turkana) Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Joyce Laboso (Bomet) among others.

    During the meeting, the DP asked the county bosses to work on ensuring that service delivery and sustainable growth is achieved in the devolved units.

    "We urge county governments to align their programmes along the Big Four pillars of food security, manufacturing, housing, and healthcare.

    "This seamless, two-tier approach to service delivery will realise sustainable growth. We are keen to provide the mechanisms to ensure success," the DP stated.

    Elsewhere, President Uhuru Kenyatta held bilateral talks with Senegal President Macky Sall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    While the Head of State and his deputy were busy attending to official matters, the former Prime Minister took the oath of office where he vowed to protect the constitution of Kenya.

    "I Raila Amollo Odinga, in full realization of the high calling assume the office of the People's President of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya.

    "That I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Kenya and by law established, and all other laws of the Republic as adopted by the People of Kenya. That I will protect and uphold sovereignty, integrity, and dignity of the people of Kenya. So help me God," Odinga declared.
