Polycarp Igathe Discloses his New Position

Former Nairobi County Deputy Governor, Polycarp Igathe, on Wednesday revealed his next move after his resignation as Governor Mike Sonko's deputy took effect at 1 pm.

Igathe disclosed that he would still serve Nairobians as an advisor, but did not mention which specific office he would be an advisor to.

"It has been a great pleasure serving Nairobians & I will continue to serve as an advisor, beyond my previous position of Nairobi County Deputy Governor," Igathe wrote.

He also urged Kenyans to embrace independent judgement and individual ideas.

"Strength, progress & peaceful change comes from independent judgment & individual ideas.

"Compromise should be on issues, not of principles; on political positions, not ourselves. As Kenyans, we should aim to surpass the ideology that fears free thought more than electric shock," he noted.

Igathe had announced his resignation on January 12, explaining that he had been unable to earn Governor Sonko's trust.

He took to social media to state: "Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive admin and management of the county.

Governor Sonko has since stated that Igathe should have consulted key figures in Jubilee before resigning, but pledged to ensure Nairobi was run efficiently even in Igathe's absence.
